"Great job by Chester Stewart". You seemed to have lowered your standard for great. 10/13 for a measly 160 yards is statistically weak. Our passing game is at the bottom of MAC ratings and even lower when looking at NCAA rankings. Have you decided that whenever Chester doesn't fumble or throw an interception while sticking to short, safe throws and attempting only 13 passes, that is "great"?? We won the game due to an awesome running game with 350 yards on 62 (62!) attempts. The longest run was not even by Stewart, Pierce, or Brown but by our 2nd or 3rd string QB. I'm sure we can win more MAC games with this unbalanced, predictable offensive scheme (with CS as maestro) but can we win a MAC Championship or bowl game without a legitimate passing game?? Could we compete with top-25 teams with such an offense?? Couldn't Gerardi or Conyer hand-off the ball just as efficiently as Stewart but enhance the "air attack" with some longer completions?? Good win against Ball State (at least some Philly team beat the CARDINALS)but "I'm just saying"
all I've asked Chester to do for four years was not screw up (no fumbles, no interceptions) and he did not listen to me until the Ball State game. So I will reiterate: Great job, Chester Stewart. Do I trust him in a big spot? He's going to have to do it multiple times to earn that trust. Fortunately, there won't be a "big spot" until maybe the Ohio game.
Hey mike,Im curious what your thoughts are on whats going on with the big east and the reports that were on the short list for an invite.My two cents:2 months ago I would of been thrilled with an invite from the Big East, but the Big East leadership has proven itself completely incompetent and unable to act with the foresight and intelligence necessary to save and build the football side of the conference. With TCU, Pitt and Syracuse leaving and UCONN and Rutgers wanting to go to the ACC and Louisville and WVU looking to jump ship, the conference looks like its about to collapse. I cant imagine the big east keeps its BCS status when its reviewed in 2014 (?).If things play out the way it appears they will with the Big East, the MAC- which has provided us with a great platform to grow our program- may end up a more stable and stronger conference (esp if they are able to pilfer some strong leftovers like cincy).The big east would have to make us an anchor member with greater benefits in football for me to be in favor of us joining. Why should we jump onto a sinking ship?We have a top notch basketball program, our football program (both in terms of on the field product and fan support and publicity) is on a skyrocketing trajectory, and we are in the 5th largest market in the country, and strong and rapidly improving academics and endowment. Yes, there is no guarantee these trends will continue, and its always best to strike while the iron is hot, but all these factors should make Temple incredibly attractive to other conferences.The MAC has provided us with an excellent situation in which to grow our program. Why throw our lot in with the big east when it seems, at best, like a 50/50 proposistion that it will live on in an incredibly weakened state and when the ACC (we should be more attractive than UCONN and Rutgers) or Big 10 (I know this is wishful thinking, but they will need to expand to 16 teams if this keeps up and we are in their footprint and would be a great addition in basketball and would end up being a middle of the pack football team with the increased recruiting benifts that would come with it) or Big 12 may come calling (I cant help thinking they will get pilfered by the Big Ten, Pac-12, and SEC?Also, you think theres any chance well see a brand new confrence emerge from the wreckage of the Big East, Big 12, and the stronger schools in C-USA, the MAC and MW and (maybe WAC)?
Good questions.My excitement with the Big East is clouded by my utter disgust with the MAC.How does any conference give their three best teams a reward to:1) Detroit2) Mobile3) BoiseAlso, the MAC was totally impotent to lobby an 8-4 team for an at-large bowl game.That's two strikes.I don't want to be around for the third.We are in the middle of the BE footprint, so I think we should go there. Get the service academies there, us and UCF and ECU and we have enough to ward off future defections and keep the AQ.Rutgers' fans might not be excited to have us, but I guarantee you Greg Schiano would love to have us and it would be a tremendous rivalry (like it was in the past).Our fans will travel better than ever before to Piscataway and their fans will travel the Linc.Also, I see the Linc as a permanent home for the BE championship game.Win, win for Temple.The $2.5 million MAC exit fee will be the best money Temple ever spent.
The more i think of it, your right. I didnt know/think about some of that. The big east will be a good platform to take the next step. It should keep daz around a bit longer, help recruiting and exposure, and be a great platform to show we can get the fans out. Your right about rutgers and I could see 50k showing up to see us play WV or Louisville (assuming they stay) and 35-6k for cincy…. I would love to win the mac on the way out.
