Temple Football Forever 
There's no way to view this season other than disappointing. The owls barely won two BE games and weren't competitive in their BE losses. They beat overmatched Villanova and Army teams and lost to a pathetic Maryland squad. However, the biggest concern was the regression in the performance of this young team through the season which doesn't leave a lot of optimism for next year. The owls were beaten in the trenches and in the secondary almost every week, they were out coached in the second half of almost every game and are losing their best skill players. Add to this situation the fact the BE conference is losing its appeal to top recruits seemingly every week and things again look bleak for owls football.Here's my recipe to start getting things together:1) Daz needs to recruit legitimate BCS caliber athletes, I don't care if he's got fifteen two-star kids he needs a dozen three-stars and the occasional four-star player. 2) Daz's offense needs to discover the forward pass. The owls offense was predictable this year but survived on the strengths of outstanding running backs who won't be here next year. The OL won't get miraculously better in the offseason so he needs to help his kids with better schemes. This will get our receivers in the flow of the game and opposing defenses out of the box. Is loefler available yet?3) For the love of god put some athletes in the defensive backfield. We have no pass rush and Dlll kids in our secondary. 4) Get a signature win. Focus on beating a recognized D1 school (PSU or Maryland would be nice) to get us off the bubble regarding our credibility as a BCS school. Go owls, but get your shit together.
I have to agree with everything you said.I realize Daz has to say the things he did the last few weeks, but it strikes me as something like, "BOY, LITTLE JOHNNY GOT UP TO THE PLATE AND MISSED THAT BALL SET UP ON THE TEE, BUT, GEEZ, WASN'T IT GREAT THE WAY HE APPROACHED IT AND SWUNG AT THE BALL? THAT REALLY GETS ME EXICTED FOR THE NEXT TIME."Ugh.
Amen. Addazio is the definition of a bad hire. Career assistant with spotty credentials until he hooked up with Urban Meyer. Voila, he becomes a recruiting genius. Why, then, are Owls last in current Scout.com recruiting rankings among the 8 current BE schools. Bradshaw made a bad hire.then compounded it by accepting Meatball Marinatto's desperate invite to the dying BE. Unless a under-recruited stud like Bernard Pierce emerges we are screwed for years.
not sure but I think Temple has started/played more freshmen than all but three schools….., we need a QB!!!!! three yards and a cloud of dust is so 20th Century…, can't go back so are we going forward? our immediate and long term success in big time college football is dependent on three things: increasing the on campus student population, increasing our academic standings, and shelling out the money for a proven top ten coach. save this comment and post it five years from now…, 10 to 1 odds on the three metrics, any takers?
If the guy at San Jose State, former Temple assistant coach Mike McIntyre, can do it there, so can Daz do it here. Nobody can ever convince me that SJSU is a better football opportunity for prospective recruits than Temple is. SJSU's offense is in the 21st century, meaning they have an equal balance of run and throw. Does Daz evolve?We'll see.
Obviously, we cannot be happy with 4-7. But it's too soon to jump off a bridge. Daz took Temple further last year than we've ever been. The loss of offensive and defensive line players was the key issue. We could not pressure Nassib yesterday in obvious passing situations. Blitz the safeties who aren't doing much deep anyway. The OL improved over the last few games, Harris had better opportunites in the 2nd level. And Juice was 16-23, 173 yards, so the game was opened up. The 2 picks, I saw as WR issues. So I see the offense better for 2013. The defense, I have to cross my fingers and hope some DL studs emerge; it is college football, it does happen.
Oh ye of little faith. 4-7 is not what I expected either and I'm disappointed in the 4-7 season. The sky is not falling! At this moment we simply do not have the athletes to play in the Big East plain and simple. The fast starts against Rutgers and Syracuse shows me, anyways, that they have some talent just not enough to compete for four quarters. This will be the first off-season where the Temple coaching staff will have an actual opportunity to go out and get the athletes that can help them in the Big East. Especially next season with the addition of the Conference USA teams, Boise State and San Diego State. The level of competition will come down a little especially for the Owls being in the Western division of the Big East. Add to this the non conference schedule, minus Notre Dame of course, of Fordham, Idaho and Army next season then a 4-8 or 5-7 record next season will have me worried and complaining and thinking that the sky is falling and all that other nonsense that I am hearing. Although like I said I expected better then 4 wins this season I can also see that as much as I thought the Big East was just a tad better than the Mid American Conference. I was wrong. Week in and week out we simply weren't prepared not because of lack of what to , but bodies.Take a step back from the edge fellas !!!

To Addazio's claim that we would have won "seven, eight or nine games this year in the MAC," who exactly would we have beat? We won two non-con games. We never won more five in any MAC season. Where is this elitism coming from? Without the MAC, Temple may not have a football program.
Academic standing and performance on the field often move in tandem, thus the reticence for the ACC and Big Ten to let in weaker academic schools. People like to point to FSU in the ACC as being hypocritical in this regard but they're ranked significantly higher than temple academically (they've clearly benefitted from being part of the ACC in this area) and could deliver the football fans. Because Russell conwell founded Temple with the purpose of making quality education accessible to the masses I'm not even certain we should be competing in that arena. I've seen the facilities at temple improve significantly since I graduated and am proud of the increase in our academic programs but think we need to keep sight of the schools purpose. I think temple has done an outstanding job building a first rate campus with over 15k students with additional housing opening soon. But our roots as a commuter school combined with the fact many students can barely afford tuition will dictate that we always have a smaller percentage of on campus students. It will also help ensure we don't have anywhere near the douchebag quotient of a Villanova or Maryland. As regards the coaching situation, I've seen many schools in the MAC win consistently with Temple talent and under-hyped coaches. I think Daz needs to take inventory of the talent he has on the team, including his staff, and craft a team around those folks as they are not as he wants them to be. I also think he needs to get some real athletes….I'm not certain how but he was recruiter of the year so he can figure it out. Finally, we need to stop hearing about the youth on the team. His talent is unimpressive at any age. When AG was building the team you could see the progress and understand the direction. This ship needs a rudder and it needs clear direction. Go land a stud QB and some d-backs and demonstrate that experience as an offensive line coach.
Wow.A lot of good comments.First off, yeah, I can compare Mike McIntyre and San Jose State to Temple.Look at who San Jose State played and beat. SJS lost to Stanford, 20-17. I would have given my eye teeth (where are eye teeth, anyway?) to lose to a team the quality of Stanford.It's obvious that McIntyre has his shit together and, according to USA Today, makes only $389K (half of what Daz makes).If Daz ever goes anywhere, love to have a guy like that here.

1. every school ranked in the top 40 of college football has a higher number of students who live on campus. Why do you think we can be different and enjoy the same level of success? football and basketball have different success criteria2. The landscape has changed; can you name of the number of schools in the Big 10 or ACC with a lower academic rating than Temple?3. I would take AG back in a heartbeat!
This year has made me appreciate Al Golden more.There's NO WAY Temple goes through that brutal four-game stretch being blown out under Al Golden.No way.Even in the 5-7 AG season, Temple was pretty much competitive in every game, even against successful BCS teams like UConn.One of my few slivers of hope was that Daz was good last year so maybe I'll settle on taking Scot Loeffler back instead.
While plenty of blame can be put on the coaching staff, this team just doesn't have that much talent. I think that Daz is a good recruiter as far as getting kids to commit he is not a good recruiter as finding overlooked prospects (AG clearly was good at this). If you don't believe me look at our recruiting rankings compared to the other current BE teams(our rankings first and any teams that recruited worse than us and their ranking)according to rivals.2012-76, UConn(77)2011-107, none2010-75, Cuse(78), UConn(83)2009-112, Cuse(117)2008-82, noneAs is clear, five of the other BE teams had better recruiting classes for each of the last five years and the other two only finished behind us twice. Of course these rating often don't mean anything but season after season they aren't that wrong.
and to MassOwl's comment about Daz inferring we can win nine games in the MAC, he's on crack. We win four games TOPS in the MAC if the schedule was the same as last year. TOPS.
