don't think Rhule is the guy, BB would not have waited this long to pull the trigger if Rhule was the top choice. Rhule and Bowles are Temple guys, but we don't need a Temple guy. we need a coach who has "it", capable of carrying the program to the next level and solidifying a culture surrounding Temple Football.
Is Heater still around? In other words, is anyone keeping the current class together? If Heater is still around that shows a tremendous amount of character and I hope he is still in the running. If not, I pray for this recruiting class which was looking pretty good. I know many of them were saying the right things a few days ago but if I was in their shoes and didn't know what they future held I would be looking out for myself so I can't blame them.Oh by the way, you can't post comments from a Temple email even though it is powered by gmail. Kind of frustrating on Temple football blog. I don't know if there are any setting you can change on your end. You just get a message that Temple mail doesn't support this blog technology or something to that effect.
Heater is around. I see Chuck as a "career assistant" type. If Rhule gets the job, I think he can talk Chuck and son-in-law Sean Cronin into staying. If not, he's got a cake job in Boston.Who knows?Maybe he asked Daz to give him Kevin Newsome and he's still PO'd that Daz hid him away on the scout team.Very strange that you can't post comments from a TU email. Did you try posting on another blog/site from TU email?I would do that first. Maybe TU doesn't allow it.I hope the delay is because maybe Clawson had second thoughts of withdrawing or that they are actively seeking Lembo. Not getting my hopes up, though.
I understand wanting a proven CFB head coach, but whats the point if he will likely split in 3 years? Wouldn't we rather roll the dice on a Bowles who is more likely to stay at Temple for a long time. A stable coaching staff could be just what the program needs to sustain success and become a little more respected nationally.

I think you can negotiate stability into a contract. Say Cristobal is balking at a 5-year deal with a $5 mil buyout? Offer the same deal to Lembo and maybe he takes it. (Lembo seems like the kind guy who will stay or at least agree to those kind of terms.)If not, consider Bowles or Rhule. That's what I think it'll come down to anyway, a scenario like that..On Temple's end, a no-firing clause.
you got your baseball analogy wrong. Bowles and Rhule have home run potential while Cristobal and Lembo are gap hitters. With Cristobal and Lembo you know you are getting someone who will get on base and provide runs consistently. With Their Temple ties Bowles and Rhule if given the opportunity may knock it out of the park but statistically they are much more likely to strike out than hit a home run. Golden turned out to be a home run hitter and now he is gone on to the majors. If Clawson and Lembo keep the their average up and and hit the occasional hr they too will get called up from AAA(MAC)but there has to be a reason they haven't been called up yet. so the season(program)is on the line with 2 outs in the 9th down 1 with a man on 3rd. Do you pinch hit to drive in a run and put a man on base or do you take a shot to end the game swinging for the fences and risk flying out?OK enough baseball. I agree having a proven HC would be ideal. However, I would love to Make Bowles the head coach. I love the fact that he is a Temple Guy through and through plus as much as the eagles suck he can promote he knows what it takes to get to the NFL and he is a Philly guy, which would be good for recruiting which is the most important thing we need at this moment. Then tell Rhule he is not quite ready for the HC job but bring him back as OC then promise him he will be the next Temple coach. as the assistant head coach It will provide stability long term, Groom Rhule to finally have the resume he should have to be a HC and also provide the integrity and recruiting that everyone raves about with Rhule. Throw in Heater and Cronin in their same roles and you have the making of an amazing staff that knows first hand what Temple needs to get to the next level. This would be ideal for me. I know its virtually impossible but ill take 3 cadidates that really want the job than a proven HC who is most likely to jump at the next opportunity
In other news, the Basketball schools look like they will be leaving the Big East. Not only that they have the power to dissolve the Big East on the way out (They now have the numbers as the incoming schools do not have a vote including Temple). I guess this explains why we don't have a coach, because we may be an independent again very soon.
You seriously underestimate Bowle's coaching experience. He would be a home run for this program, someone who would stick with them for a long time and be GOOD. Why do you think he would be a bad hire? Before this year, he would have been vastly overqualified for the job. Many people in the NFL believe it is inevitable he will become a head coach in the NFL. So why do you rule him out? Because of one bad year as a mid-season replacement in an impossible situation. So because of ONE YEAR, you rule him out. How shortsighted of you. MARIO CRISTOBAL'S TEAM WENT 3-9 LAST YEAR! HOW IS THIS MORE EXCUSABLE THAN WHAT BOWLES DID AS A DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR FOR THE EAGLES??? Bowles is a great coach and a great man. He's a match made in heaven for this program. I also don't appreciate the subtly racist comment about his "casual dress".

Not racist at all. I LOVE the fact that Todd Bowles dresses with the Temple garb. I don't think Todd would be a bad choice. I just think Lembo is better. Now Owlscoop is reporting that it's between Rhule and D'Onofrio.God help us.Rhule would be WAY better than D'Onofrio, slightly worse than Todd.
If that NFL player (I think it's BP) DID tell BB Rhule (and I think he did), we are looking at our new head coach. The players will be happy. All I can say is they better deliver me a 7-5 or better next year or I will scream for him to be fired immediately.
First, lighten up Oliver….if you read mike's blog you'd know there's nothing subtly or overtly racist about the guy. Take your PC bs somewhere else and don't waste owl's time. As relates to the head coach, I would have serious concerns about hiring D'nofrio who I think is probably a nice guy but at best a marginal coordinator even though he's been provided with some real talent. I don't see him taking the reigns and moving the owls program to the next level. Given the option I would also roll with Rhule but can't say I'd be too excited about the selection. I think he would stabilize the incoming recruits and could be successful but I think the next step in temples evolution is to get creative game day coach. The owls have underachieved the past several years given their talent. Before anybody goes to the MAC talent in the BCS take a look at how the Mac performed against BE and Big ten. We need a coach that can squeeze some wins out against marquee programs (PSU anyone.) and impress recruits and fans that are a legit program.Peace.
Rhule should beg Heater to stay on
Mike and TFF community,Read Dana O'Neil's superb ESPN.com piece on the Catholic 7. She correctly ID's Temple as the big loser. Agree with every word she wrote. Have been saying for months the administration was misguided with its grid greed. Man, as a hoops and football season ticket holder and an Owls Club contributor, am I disappointed in Bradshaw.
I wrote the "casual dress" thing as a compliment, not a knock. Heck, I'd rather have a guy who dresses in sweats at a presser and wins than a three-piece suit guys that loses. To me, nobody can do any wrong wearing Temple sweats. That's all I ever wear.
My bad, I misread the comment, I thought you were slamming the way he dressed. I'm a longtime reader of the blog, and I have a lot of respect for you Mike, I misspoke and that's my fault. I hope Temple makes the right call on the head coach, Temple is all I have with all of Philly's other sports teams falling apart. I truly believe that Bowles is the right hire for this school.
