Week 12 MAC bloggers’ roundtable

By Mike Gibson
It’s my week to host the MAC Bloggers’ Roundtable and this week is interesting in that we have a pick ’em game on Saturday, Northern Illinois at Ohio, that could determine whether Temple clinches the MAC East on Saturday or not.
The questions to my fellow bloggers are as follows:
1) Do you like the MAC’s current bowl setup in which the bowls get to pick, rather than a 1 goes to A, 2 to B, etc? Would you change that, if you could?

2) Recognizing that probably no one will probably be fired this year, who do you think will be the NEXT coach in the MAC to get a pink slip?
3) What do you think can be done, if anything, to get the MAC more bowl tie-ins?
4) Who do you like in the MAC’s only pick-’em game of this week, NIU at Ohio, and why?

I will post the answers of my fellow MAC bloggers as I get them below:

  1. FWIW as an outsider:1) Beggars can't be choosers, as much as I would like the conference to pick who goes where I am not going to delude myself into thinking that, right now, the MAC has any kind of leverage to apply.2) I think JD Brookhart gets the boot this season. If by some miracle he survives 2009 I don't see 2010 going any better for him. Perhaps *if* Stan Parrish tries to stay on past next season at BSU he will get the boot as well (unless he pulls a serious turnaround). The only other teams doing exceptionally badly have new coaches and the ones hurting (like Buffalo) have coaches who have built up a little good will.3) It's all about winning. I would love the mac to have five tie-ins but lets face facts, with the three tie-ins and two at large bids we had last year we won nothing. If the MAC starts to win OOC games against good teams and starts to win Bowl games more bowls will come our way.4) I am leaning towards Ohio they have a dynamic D that leads the conference in take aways, they are solid against the Run (NIU's strength), its being played in Ohio, and their offense is coming back to life.

  2. Don't know why these aren't clickable, but thanks to Mad Mike and B.J. for their responses.I didn't get everyone's by late Thursday night so I won't be able to highlight or "capsule" some of the responses.

  3. and, of course, Bull Run.

  4. Well my answers don't count for much just found the questions interesting while I was going through the MAC blogs. Good luck this week, should be a hell of a game..
