(Fellow) Eagles’ fans are in for a treat

Jarrett’s hit at 0:23 of this video is the greatest I’ve ever seen, high school, college or pro.

My weekends are pretty much set around a Temple game in person on Saturday and an Eagles’ game by the TV on Sunday.
Those two days seem to go by in like five minutes.
That’s why I could not be happier for my main man Jaiquawn Jarrett today after the Eagles selected him in the second round.
Or myself.
As a Temple fan, I am going to miss him leaving the family.
As an Eagles’ fan, I’m going to adopt him as my favorite player.
The Eagles have missed that hard-hitting safety since Brian Dawkins left. They haven’t had anybody who could bring the wood since.

I really believe UConn lost its will to win after that hit. The Huskies did not want to get hit from that spot in the game forward.

Jarrett, to me, is a younger, faster, version of Brian Dawkins.

I said that all season. It wasn’t surprising that Andy Reid said that at the press conference. Reid said a lot of other nice things about Temple, calling the school “an educational Mecca” and saying “that program is really rolling now.”
I think the way it will eventually shake down is that Nate Allen will be a starting free safety (he’s more of a floater-type cover guy anyway) and Jarrett will be moved to strong safety, where his primary cover responsibility will be tight ends.
He will do more than fine there.

“Temple is an educational Mecca”
_Andy Reid

His hit of Jordan Todman, a great back from UConn, in the above video is the single greatest hit I’ve ever seen. You get a flavor for it from the video, but you really had to be there to hear and see it in person and experience the crowd’s awe-struck reaction afterward.
I really believe UConn lost its will to win after that hit. The Huskies did not want to get hit from that spot in the game forward.
That’s what Jarrett brings to the game.
It is somewhat consoling to know that I will still see it on my weekends, albeit the second half this year.

  1. I gotta say, I went from being super disappointed to not getting Wilkerson, to really excited about getting Jarret. I don't buy the "what a stretch" argument, especially considering the other Eagles' draft picks. I think the Eagles are gonna get a solid player, and Temple football is finally gonna start to get some face time here in Philly. Also, I loved how JJ handled the Eagles' network interview jab about Owls attendance rates. Seems like a classy guy, all around.

  2. I missed it. What did JJ say about the attendance question?

  3. The jab was, "What's it going to be like to play at the Linc with a FULL crowd?" and JJ's response was something to the effect of, "Philly fans are really passionate, it was great to play and have Temple come out and show its support, and now they'll come out with the rest of the city. It'll be exciting to see the arena all filled up." It quietly admitted the attendance thing, but gave those of us that do go and get excited respect. He does kinda remind me of Dawkins demeanor wise.I'm really hoping he gets makes the cut. I haven't been impressed with the Eagles safeties ever since Dawkins left.

  4. Thanks, Nicolaos.Very classy comments. To me, it's incredibly impressive we got 23K for Bowling Green and 21K for Kent State. We're slowly building back a fan base that took 30 years to tear down.Expecting 35K for these types of opponents is really too much, too soon.We should be able to get 40K for Nova, 70K for PSU and it's not unrealiztic to expect the Nova crowd to be 80 percent Temple and the PSU crowd to be NEAR a split (in other words, 30K TEMPLE fans). Not unrealistic after 9- and 8- win seasons at all.

  5. we lost two NFL starters in one draft, when was the last time that happened? now we have big shoes to fill on defense……, thank God we have a great D-Coordinator…., we need to completely crush 'nova…., win big against Akron and the Temple fans WILL show-up against PSU. Our coaching staff knows how to beat PSU! WE WILL BEAT PSU IF BP PLAYS THE WHOLE GAME, OR RUSHES FOR 100 YDS; AND, OUR QB THROWS NO MORE THAN ONE INT.

  6. Great point about the defensive coordinator. Mark D'Onofrio was a good defensive coordinator, but Temple was his first DC job. My impressions of him was that he had a whole lot of "want to" but maybe not as much "know how" as Heater does. Heater's got the "want to" and the "know how" … if my hunch is correct, we will turn our great athletes on the MAC in an attack mode, with the emphasis on rushing the passer and stopping the run rather than MDO's bend-but-don't-break philosophy, which I hated.
