Thumbs up to the Media Guide Cover

This cover speaks to the meaning of Temple TUFF.

The date was Dec. 30, 2009 and I was in the Renaissance Hotel in Washington, D.C.
After filing my report from the Eagle Bank Bowl for this website from the desk of my hotel room, I debated about whether or not I should watch the replay on ESPN2.
I was hurting so much that night I could not sleep, so I turned on the TV.
To a lot of people, a close loss to UCLA was acceptable.
Not to me.

What impressed me most was how loud the 20,000 Temple fans were and how that noise translated to HDTV. I knew they were loud from being there, but I didn’t know how it translated.
Standing in the minus 11-degree wind chill, I heard the stadium literally shake with a LET’S GO TEM-PLE cheer after the Owls scored the second touchdown but I wondered if the ESPN audience got the message.
They did.
The announcers praised the Temple fans and the energy they brought to the chilly night.
Then, with a half-time interview of Al Golden, the term “Temple TUFF” was born.
Wearing only a dress shirt and a Cherry-colored tie, the announcer asked Golden if he was crazy.
“No, that’s Temple TUFF … T. U. F. F.,” Golden said.
The term stuck and new coach Steve Addazio embraced it as the cornerstone of his program.
You can tell by the cover of the Media Guide released this week.
All I can say is that there are a bunch of TEMPLE TUFF guys on that cover at the train station in the middle of one of the toughest neighborhoods in the country.
Hopefully, the toughness will carry over onto the football field this fall.

  1. TFF,any reason why our JUCO QB is not on the depth chart? and, are we really going to open the season w/CS at QB? the FB/TE position appears explosive.

  2. Those black varsity jackets are cool !

  3. Yeah, I got to get me one of those jackets, too.Maybe if I hit the $775,000 Cash 5 tonight ….As far as Clinton, I would not put too much stock in his not being on the depth chart.Remember, these other guys have been at Temple for a long time.Chester looks great in practice, so he will be in the mix. When he gets into a game, though, he HAS looked like a deer in the headlights.Gerardi plays like he's been in a game before. He's got a lot of "game" presence. Don't know if Addazio will find that out until Villanova. I hope he watches the film of the PSU game and the Bowling Green game before making a final decision. If Granger dazzles in his four weeks of practice, he will be in the mix. I don't see how he can catch up in that much time.Coyer is the X factor. I keep hearing he's a poor man's Tim Tebow. If Scot Loeffler gets that hunch, he could be the horse coming on the outside who wins by a nose in the final two furlongs.

  4. Just curious, how did you vote on the poll regarding Big East now that its a month since you last posted that breaking news. Any more news?

  5. It is news because every recruit since I said this a montb ago continous to mention the BE. Daz has not stopped using this as a recruiting tool.

  6. TFF Faithful,The city of brotherly love has already raised hotel room prices for PSU weekend. So if you are like me, an out of towner, make your reservations now!

  7. Wow. That's treatment usually reserved for Army-Navy week. Let's hope that since this a Temple blog only Temple fans see this, then rent out all the rooms. My fantasy (other than Cecily Tynam, of course) is to see every hotel room full of Cherry and White clad Temple fans coming in from places like Northern Virginia, New York State, New England, Denver, Richmond, Idaho and Southern California. I think I might have a better shot at Cecily Tynan, though.

  8. Temple did not get any love during the MAC Media day event…., I'm convinced, now more than ever, our success this season is inherently linked to the performance/play at the QB position. 55% or greater completion percentage, and a QB rating north of 100. anything less and it will be a no-bowl-bid year.

  9. I'm confident we have AT LEAST two QBs who can do that. God help us if they both go down. I won't say who I think they are now. I wish all five of them the best of luck.

  10. Does anyone know where I can pick up an authentic or good replica Temple jersey other than the #30 replica i always see? I can't show up on Sept 17th with my typical TU football shirt or hoodie.

  11. The logo on the jacket, s that purple or pink? The jackets are cool. :))- Football

  12. the logo on the jackets is Cherry, not purple nor pink … as far as the best place to pick up a Temple replica jersey, you missed it … Cherry and White Day, third Saturdays in April. They might be selling some jerseys on opening night, Sept. 1 right inside the stadium gates and to the right.

  13. Quick question but not related, when is the date for the start of Summer Practice ?

  14. Not related but when is the first day of Summer practice and is Matt Brown on the team ?

  15. First day of practice is Thursday. Matt Brown will be on the team if his discussion with Steve Addazio goes well Wednesday. That's a 50-50 call now.
