Again, Fran Brown sleeps with one eye open. Brown is as good as gone next year.
Will Temple be able to keep the two Foley 2020 OL recruits from Europe?
What’s up w/Ayron Monroe? He is not listed on the roster.
Is it your opinion or facts , that Fran Brown is leaving next year ?
I think that’s KJ’s opinion. My opinion (informed by a person I trust) is that one of the reasons he came back was that Kraft promised Fran HE (not Foley) would be the next interim head coach if Carey left and that was a delicious enough carrot to be enticed to come back. To me, a Temple bowl WIN under an interim coach probably gets Fran the next job. It’s worth the risk. I think he rides it out here.
After all, Brown left Baylor to come back to Temple.
Wouldn’t worry about Monroe. He’s been spotted walking around on campus carrying books (I assume to lighten his credits load for the fall) and taking classes. The official camp roster doesn’t come out until Friday so you will likely see him there then.
Just saw that UConn agreed to pay 17 million to exit the AAC. They agreed to pay 5 million more than league rules called for to leave a year earlier. They have just committed sports suicide. The Big East is essentially irrelevant without football.
Football drives the bus and they just got out of the transportation business. What happens if they go into the big East and are as mediocre there as they have been the last few years in the aac?
Aresco folded too early, UCONN should have paid north of $20M.
But it gets a bad football team off everyone’s sos. And doesn’t become a lingering distraction. Why haggle over $3 million if you want them out as much as they want to leave? UConn should be dropping fb, but they’re stupid and poorly run so they can’t see that all hey spent already is a sunk cost and shouldn’t have impacted their future moves.
When does summer camp start? It’ll be interesting reading. How will Carey runs the show. I hope our student athletes stay healthy and buy into the new program better than the previous regime. It should be another challenge: seven coaches in 10 years is hard on players and fans.
Ed’s two bowl appearances dashed my high hopes.
Aug. 2. As far as Ed, his tenure at Temple was embodiment of the Peter Principle: He twice rose to the level of respective incompentence (interim head coach). Perfectly compentent, even outstanding, in his levels below HC.
UConn move may cost conference ESPN bucks. This article confirms for me that the league is looking for a replacement. As Mike suggested, if BYU is willing, snap them up. They’re independent and won’t cost the league transfer costs. By the way, in addition to the 17 million to the league, UCONN will pay the Big East 10 million entry fee. He’ll, with that money they could have upgraded the football team. This move really does nothing for UCONN.

could the Big Ten kick Rutgers out for not being competitive ?
IMHO BYU and Army will stay independent. Buffalo, UMass, or Appalachian St should be on the short list
What in God’s name would UMass add to the conference?
As long as Indiana is playing football in the Big10, Rutgers isn’t going anywhere.
UMass is irrelevant and adds neither competitive nor marketing value to the AAC. I would invite Marshall instead . Regardless of their media market .
Amy’s addition would affect the Army Navy game. They both make a fortune on the game and I don’t believe either would agree to make it a regular season game. As it stands now they have the college football tv landscape to themselves and neither would want to change that given its influence on future enrollment. I also don’t think they would agree to playing each other twice in a season during the three years when the teams play alternate other division opponents. UMass would be a big mistake although they would be an all-sport addition. Buffalo is a good choice but lack any pizzazz.other than the people in Buffalo I doubt that most of the country even knows that Buffalo is a D-1 team. Their attendance is atrocious and they travel horribly. It will be interesting to see who the new member will be.
this team does it, wins conference titles AND bowl games.., would be instant rivalry game w/ECU, and would allow Navy to move to the AAC East.., their future non-conference schedule includes big pay days at So Carolina, UNC, Wisconsin, Miami, Texas A&M, Clemson, etc.,

From listening to the two national commentators (including Brett McMurphy) on the BYU network saying that BYU would have more to GAIN than to lose by joining the AAC, I would think BYU people are seriously looking into applying. I would take BYU over App. State if that’s the choice. BYU has a national fan base like Army but draws 60K a home game not 30K like Army or 22K like App State.
bridge way too far.., BYU schedule is pretty much set for the next five years with projected revenues far exceeding what the AAC could offer.

Buffalo, Appalachian St, NIU, Toledo are all more realistic
They could push back scheduled games to accommodate a conference schedule and where have you seen any #’s that suggest their new ESPN deal would be “far exceeding” the AAC money?
I could see UConn, which needs games, just swapping out schedules with BYU should BYU decide to join AAC. BYU is getting a lot less from ESPN than the $7 million each AAC school is getting although I can’t find the exact figures.
I think I saw $4 million a year somewhere. I also saw in Salt Lake times an unnamed quote that the exposure on the network was more valuable to BYU people than the actual dollar amounts.
